Error while accessing Manage Content and Structure in SharePoint 2010

This is a very rare but tough error you may encounter during your SharePoint endeavour. The error occurs while trying to access “Content and structure” section; which says:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object at –

Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Internal.WebControls.ObjectSerializer.DeleteAllowed(Boolean checkPermissions)

The cause for this error is the existence of some corrupt list whose corruption may have caused due to removal of the list template after the list’s creation.  The solution is to run the below command with administrator privileges:

stsadm.exe -o forcedeletelist -url <your list url; eg. http://myserver:8080/site/listname>
